Fed: Boycott the Xmas ham - rights group

Australians are being urged to leave the Christmas ham off the festive food list ..

with a report claiming most yuletide pork is sourced from animals kept in terrible conditions.

But the pork industry has rubbished the claims by animal rights group Voiceless ..

saying the organisation's assessment of the sector has little basis in reality.

The group's report says 90 per cent of Christmas hams come from factory farms where
pigs are kept in cramped indoor cages with limited room to move.

It says there's clear evidence factory farmed pigs suffer prolonged depression .. because
they're denied natural light and space.

But the Australian Pork Limited has ridiculed the study and described the group as
false prophets.
